The heart and soul of the Drum Major Academy is the IMPACT Team. This dedicated group of volunteer college students donate their time by assisting the clinicians and staff in behind the scenes preparations, daily workshop sessions, and evening activities. Each member receives a full tuition, room and board scholarship to attend DMA as a potential "staff member in training." They are a group of energetic individuals who are the spine of the Academy. IMPACT Team members represent the drive and motivation for the week and serve as the role models for every student, director, clinician, and yes, even the staff.
IMPACT Team members have 3 specific roles to fill. First, they are still a student in many ways. One never truly stops learning, so here is a great opportunity for them to continue with their education and their development of critical leadership and communication skills! Second, IMPACT Team members are in the position of a teacher. They will be furthering their teaching techniques by being a liaison between the clinicians and the staff. And third, IMPACT Team members are a role model for the high school students enrolled in the workshop. This means they are an adult presence in the dorms, as well as other settings.
The IMPACT Team is a wonderful opportunity for music education majors to gain valuable teaching experience, and yes, a fantastic addition to your resume!
